Comedy and Curry
Comedy and Curry Mc Kerry Godliman Tim Clark and Papa CJ Watermans Theatre 24th May Comedy nights are always a bit hit and miss. You can get good comics and you can get bad ones, ones who are funny and ones that totally miss the plot and you have to remember that most are learning their trade, hoping that there is a break for them somewhere. And so it was on the 24th. Kerry Godliman very expertly MC’d the show and hit a nice blend of pathos and funny moments, but the dream of the MC is someone that stands up. Whatever you do don’t attract the attention of the comic; they have learnt how to use you! So enters or rather exits poor Wayne not once but 10 times, who having left to go at the interval, comes back for more abuse of the comic kind you should have stayed in the bar Wayne. Mind you I wish I stayed in the bar with Papa CJ. I know he was a late replacement, but he seemed intent on only trying out some very unfunny stories that just did not work and stayed there looking at his watch with all of us wishing the time would pass. Not so Antti Hakala. The best that can be said is that he has a funny name because none of his act was and perhaps realising that left rather hurriedly, which meant that Ma Godliman was left on stage with a mouth full of curry. The curry is extra and for £5 you get a choice of several meat, chicken or vegetarian dishes all served with a salad and some Nan bread. Quite a nice titbit but not enough to fill you but the lager at under £3 a pint is amongst the cheapest in Brentford. Tim Clark headlined the night and he was funny and accomplished, even though he was an Everton fan and went through the usual stories of family and incidents that seem to be the norm for comedy nights. All in all it was a pleasant evening, but I did find myself crying out for a bit of originality on stage, a genuinely funny person or some funny characters with ludicrous situations or some out and out daftness. I am sure that Kerry Godliman could have supplied that and perhaps we might see and hear more from her in the future. Review by Evan Rule Share this
